Dr. Parvej Alam obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani in India (2011-2016), where he worked on the synthesis and applications of aggregation-induced emission (AIE) active transition metal complexes. He then joined the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) as a postdoctoral researcher (2016-2023) in the pioneering AIE lab of Prof. Ben Zhong Tang.
At HKUST, Dr. Alam designed and synthesized a wide range of novel AIE-active metal complexes and organic molecules. His work covered the full scope of AIE research, including new iridium and gold-based phosphorescence metal complexes, pure organic room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) and long-persistent luminescence (OLPL) materials.
Dr. Alam published over 41 papers, including 21 as first author in high-impact journals such as J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Adv. Mater., Adv. Funct. Mater., and Nat. Commun. Dr. Alam has four granted patents related to AIE, RTP, and OLPL materials.
In July 2023, Dr. Alam joined the Second Affiliated Hospital of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) as a research scientist and received Oversea National Talent Program. His current research focuses on developing near-infrared RTP and OLPL materials for biomedical applications, including bioimaging, photodynamic therapy, and sensing.
