Master of Science in Communications Engineering (MSc. CE) is a two-year full-time programme offered by CUHK-Shenzhen revolving around the area of communication engineering. The Programme aims to equip students with essential knowledge and skills that enable them to develop and implement solutions to harvesting, transmission, and processing of data and information, with a wide coverage of emerging technology such as 5G and beyond communications and networks, wireless communications, machine learning, Internet of Things, cloud computing, edge computing, big data, and analytic processing.

Programme Objectives
Recent advancements in communications technologies such as 5G, optical communications, IoT, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence, are reshaping every aspect of commerce, industry, and society. Information and communication technology is also a fast-growing industry in China. There is thus a rapidly growing demand for talented professionals with specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities in communications engineering.
The Master of Science in Communications Engineering Programme aims to educate professionals with both theory and practice of communications engineering. Students who graduate from this two-year Master’s Programme will learn the fundamental theory and cutting-edge methods of communications engineering over a wide range of emerging topics such as 5G and beyond communications and networks, Internet of Things (IoT), and machine learning. Students will also complete research projects demonstrating that they can use the fundamental concepts to solve problems in various communications applications.
- Faculty: The faculty of MSc. CE, including several IEEE Fellows, have all studied or taught in internationally renowned universities. Therefore, students are allowed to access research guidance from leading international scholars.
- Further study opportunities: MSc. CE graduates can apply directly to the Ph.D. Programme in Computer & Information Engineering, SSE, CUHK-Shenzhen.

The School of Science and Engineering (SSE), as a partner of many of the world's leading universities, is renowned for its unique combination of Chinese and Western learning environments that cater to international academic trends. It is also home to a global team of top-notch scholars, including multiple Turing Award winners, Fields Medalists, members of multiple academies of science/engineering, and senior scholars from prestigious universities at home and abroad.
The combination of classroom teaching and mentorship brings teachers and students closer together, giving students more opportunities to communicate with their mentors and develop teamwork skills among their peers. Moreover, SEE is a designated recipient of government funds for various key research projects, and has several college-enterprise joint labs, including CUHK(SZ)-Tencent AI Lab Joint Laboratory of Machine Intelligence, and CUHK(SZ)-JD Joint AI Lab. The all-around in-depth cooperation between the University and enterprises creates a favorable atmosphere that connects industries, education, research, and rich resources for students.

Application Requirements
1. Education Background Requirements:
- Graduated from a university recognized by the Ministry of Education, P.R.C, and obtained a bachelor's degree, normally with honours not lower than Second Class; or
- Graduated from an honours programme of a recognized university with a Bachelor’s degree, normally achieving an average grade of not lower than "B" (3.0 GPA or 80); or
- Graduated from an honours programme of a recognized university with a Bachelor’s degree, and accumulated at least one-year working experience in the leading companies in related industry (with strong recommendation letters from employers); or
- Completed a course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to an honours degree.
2. English Language Requirements for Admission:
- TOEFL: 550 (Paper-based)/213 (Computer-based) /79 (Internet-based);
- IELTS (Academic): 6.5;
- GMAT: Band 21 (Verbal); or
- Taken a degree programme of which the medium of instruction was English. (The University may require applicants to provide supporting documents); or
- Obtained a recognized professional qualification of Hong Kong SAR, China or outside China, provided that the examination was conducted in English.
