Master of Science in Financial Mathematics

Master of Science in Financial Mathematics (MSc. FMA) is a two-year full-time programme offered by the School of Science and Engineering of the CUHK-Shenzhen revolving around the area of finance and mathematics, aiming to cultivate professional composite talents with a solid theoretical foundation in finance and advanced mathematical application ability. The programme covers the core knowledge and methods related to financial mathematics, and aims to equip students with essential knowledge and skills to develop and implement quantitative and data-driven solutions to financial problems. Graduates of this programme are expected to have gained a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental theory as well as tools and methods of financial mathematics in a broad range of emerging topics such as quantitative investment, algorithmic trading, and risk management, and in-depth study of professional knowledge related to applied mathematics, such as advanced numerical methods, advanced probability theory and mathematical statistics, stochastic and partial differential equations, advanced actuarial science, etc. In addition, students will also be exposed to basic theoretical knowledge and technical methods related to computer technology, such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, and financial technology. The curriculum design emphasizes interdisciplinary knowledge integration and skills training, and provides a variety of research and practice opportunities.

Programme Highlights
Curriculum Advantages: The curriculum covers the core knowledge system in financial mathematics and quantitative financial analysis, deeply integrating mathematical modeling with financial practices. It focuses on developing advanced technical skills in quantitative finance, including but not limited to stochastic processes and derivatives pricing, actuarial science, risk management, algorithmic trading, quantitative investment, and the application of machine learning in finance.

Education Background Requirements
- Graduated from a recognised university and obtained a bachelor's degree, normally with honours not lower than Second Class or achieving an average grade of not lower than "B"; or
- Completed a course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to a bachelor's degree.
English Language Requirements for Admission
- TOEFL: 550 (Paper-based)/79 (Internet-based/Home Edition);
- IELTS (Academic): 6.5 (Test Centre based/Online); or
- GMAT: Band 21 (Verbal); or
- GMAT Focus Edition: Band 78 (Verbal); or
- Taken a degree programme of which the medium of instruction was English (The University may require applicants to provide supporting documents); or
- Obtained a recognized professional qualification, provided that the examination was conducted in English.
*Note: TOEFL and IELTS scores are considered valid for two years from the test date. GMAT scores are considered valid for five years from the test date.
