黄建伟教授现为香港中文大学（深圳）校长讲座教授、协理副校长（拓展事务），深圳市人工智能与机器人研究院副院长和群体智能中心主任，深圳市群体智能驱动的低碳能源网络重点实验室主任，香港中文大学（深圳）中新智慧储能联合研究中心主任。他是IEEE Fellow、AAIA Fellow、国家级人才、广东省省级人才、IEEE通信学会杰出演讲者、科睿唯安计算机科学领域全球高被引科学家、爱思唯尔中国高被引学者。

黄建伟教授长期专注于网络通信、网络经济学和群体智能交叉领域的开创性研究，已发表8部学术专著和400余篇国际一流期刊和会议论文，谷歌学术引用超过2万次，十多篇论文入选ESI高引论文和热点论文，12次获得国际会议和期刊的最佳论文奖，包括2011年IEEE马可尼无线通信论文奖。他于2022年获得IEEE通信学会TCCN论文成就奖，2023年获得香港中文大学（深圳）杰出科研奖。

黄建伟教授曾任IEEE Transactions on Network Science and Engineering（JCR 1区）主编，IEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society、IEEE Communications Society Technology News副主编（Associate Editor-in-Chief）及多个通信网络领域JCR Q1一流国际期刊的编委，包括IEEE JSAC、TMC、ToN、TWC、TCCN、TNSE。他历任IEEE通信学会认知网络专委会主席和多媒体通信专委员会主席，曾获得2015年IEEE通信学会多媒体通信专委员会杰出服务奖和2010年IEEE GLOBECOM卓越服务奖。
