Biography:


Jianfeng Mao received the B.E. degree and M.E. degree in Automation Science from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China in 2001 and 2004 respectively, and Ph.D. degree in Systems Engineering from Boston University, Boston, MA, U.S. in 2009. From 2010 to 2016, he was a Faculty Member with the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He is currently an assistant professor with the School of Science and Engineering, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, China. He specializes in the areas of modeling and optimization of discrete event dynamic systems with applications to transportation systems, smart grid, computer networks, and wireless sensor networks. He has secured ten research grants and the total amount awarded is CNY 18,548,000, in which the total amount as PI is CNY 8,437,000. Eight of them are external competitive grants from National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, Ministry of Education, Singapore and Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Committee with the total amount of CNY 16,741,000. He is the recipient of several awards, including the Best Conference Paper Award of 2017 IEEE Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (the flagship conference of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society), the Best Paper Award of 2012 Industrial and Systems Engineering Research Conference, the Best Paper Award of 2011 Association for Global Business Conference, the 2009 Best PhD Dissertation Award Finalist of Boston University College of Engineering and the 2004 Boston University Dean’s Fellowship. He is an associate editor of the journal of Discrete Event Dynamic Systems: Theory and Applications (a JCR-Q1 journal) from 2013. He serves on several program committees of international conferences.
