Biography

Prof. SUN Zhenglong earned his B.Eng. in Biomedical Engineering from the School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and his M.Eng. in Mechatronic Systems and Design from the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in 2005 and 2007, respectively. In 2008, he served as a visiting scholar at the Engineering Research Center for Computer-Integrated Surgical Systems and Technology at Johns Hopkins University. He pursued his Ph.D. at NTU under the supervision of Professor Phee Soo Jay, successfully defending his thesis in 2013. Subsequently, he worked at the newly established SUTD-MIT International Design Center before joining the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, as a faculty member in April 2017. Currently, he also serves as the co-coordinator of the Biomedical Engineering program which is joint established with the School of Medicine, and as the deputy director of the Healthcare Robotics Research Center at the Shenzhen Institute of AI and Robotics for Society (AIRS).

His research interests encompass medical robotics and devices, human-robot interaction and collaboration, multi-modal perception, and bio-inspired robots. Prof. Sun has authored over 90 journal and conference papers, holds several PCT and national patents, and contributed to book chapters. According to Google Scholar, his work has been cited over 2,200 times, reflecting an h-index of 23. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and serves as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Medical Robotics and Bionics. He is also a program committee member for several international conferences, including AAAI, IJCAI, ROBIO, and RCAR.
