Prof. Wei Cai received the B.Eng. degree in software engineering from Xiamen University, China, in 2008, the M.S. degree in electrical engineering and computer science from Seoul National University, South Korea, in 2011, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from The University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver, Canada, in 2016. From 2016 to 2018, he was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow with UBC. He has completed visiting research at the National Institute of Informatics, Japan, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Academia Sinica.
Dr. Cai is currently an assistant professor of Computer Engineering at the School of Science and Engineering, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. He is the director of the Human-Crypto Society Laboratory and CUHK(SZ)-White Matrix Joint Metaverse Laboratory. Prof. Cai has co-authored more than 100 journal/conference papers and received 6 best paper awards in the areas of decentralized systems and interactive multimedia. His recent research interests focus on human factors in the metaverse, including Web3, blockchain, digital game, human-computer interaction, social computing, DeFi/GameFi, UGC/AIGC, and computational art. Dr. Cai is an associate editor for ACM Transactions on Multimedia Computing, Communications, and Applications (TOMM), IEEE Transactions on Computational Social Systems (TCSS), and IEEE Transactions on Cloud Computing (TCC), as well as a guest editor for many leading journals, including ACM TOMM, IEEE Multimedia, TNSE, TCSS. He was the TPC Co-Chair for ACM NOSSDAV'23 and an Area Chair for ACM MM'23. Dr. Cai is an Executive Committee Member of China Computer Federation (CCF) Computational Art Committee, Technical Committee on Human-Computer Interaction, and Technical Committee on Blockchain. He is a senior member of the IEEE and a member of the ACM.
