Abtract

Graphene and related materials have attracted much attention in various fields. For the practical applications, tailoring the 3D carbon architectures is critical for achieving the comprehensively useful performance of the materials obtained. In addition, constructing the carbon interface and understanding the interface is essential to further improve the performance. Herein our recent progress will be included in the talk, mainly focusing on the approach combining assembly and chemical processing developed for graphene materials with high mechanical merits, thermal conductivity and high performance of energy storage electrodes and novel carbon monoliths with potentially other new physical properties. Also, some recent progressing on the interface engineering towards understanding the kinetics of ions between graphene layers and probing the ion deposition on single layer graphene will be discussed, based on ex-situ and in-operando techniques.

About the Speaker

Prof. Yanwu ZHU

USTC

Dr. Yanwu Zhu is a professor in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). He received his MS (2003) from Peking University (China) and PhD (2007) from National University of Singapore (NUS), both in physics. He worked as a research fellow in NUS Nanoscience & Nanotechnology Initiative, Singapore before he moved to the University of Texas at Austin, where he joined Prof. Rodney Ruoff’s group for graphene materials studies till July 2011. He has published more than 160 research papers on the topics of nanomaterials, applied physics and applied chemistry. So far these papers have been cited by more than 30000 times and the highest citation is over 5000. Dr. Zhu was selected as the second batch of Young Talent Thousand program by the central government of China (2011), New Century Excellent Talents Program in University by MOE (2012) and Young Excellent Young Scientist by NSFC (2013). He was awarded 2011 Scopus Young Researcher Award, 2016 IUMRS-MRSS Young Researcher Merit Award and 2017 APEC ASPRIE Prize. He has been listed in the highly cited researchers since 2017 by Clarivate Analytics.
